iPhone 4S eject box for E53

Post by LFP » Sat Jan 28, 2012 2:27 pm

Has anyone managed to get the iPhone 4 into an eject box thing for an E53 yet? I understand that at the last time of asking they were only selling iphone 4 eject boxes for the E70.

I appreciate it can be done by getting the E70 one and filing it but I'm not keen on mutilating one to fit.

iPhone 4S eject box for E53

You mean eject box or cradle? I have an iPhone 3/3G eject box with a 3G/3GS cradle. I took a dremel with a grinding wheel to the cradle and made it fit my iPhone 4. A bit Frankenstein but it works and saves me £70 on a new cradle. The eject box for the 3G and 4/4s is the same just different cradle.

I don't know what I mean. I think I'm using the wrong terminology - the link to real oem below shows what I have under the arm rest at present and the car has bluetooth enabled. I want to be able to slot the iphone 4 into a holder under the arm rest holder.

Terminology is fine. Do you currently have a phone holder or just storage? If you have a phone holder(cradle) that will click into the eject box under it. If you have a cradle in it already what phone is it for?

This is what is there at the moment

The middle part pops out, leaving this

I take it that the sides of the recess in the second picture are what has to be trimmed in order to accommodate the iphone 4?

To me that looks like storage. The bit underneath doesn't look like an eject box. Can't see any connectors. I will take some pics of mine tonight for comparison

As promised...Pic 1 is my cradle inside the eject box... Pic 2 is the eject box with cradle removed. Pic 3 is my "modification" to fit my iPhone 4. Not the tidiest but it's hidden under the armrest and I only use it when I forget to stick it on charge over night and was cheaper than getting a new cradle for £70. As far as I know the iPhone 4 cradle fits into the eject box I have.

interesting.... slightly different and probably enough to make life difficult. I reckon i'll try and get my hands on a second hand unit and take the dremel to it to get the phone cradle to fit an iphone. That way when it all goes wrong I haven't ruined the car. Thanks for the photos.

You'll need the eject box too. Ring dealer for parts/price enquiry and ask for the specific part numbers for when you "ring back to order" then scan eBay

So...... it turns out I do have an eject box fitted, it's just older than time itself;

The new cradles require an updated eject box to be fitted;

It's all rather a lot of money for something I'll be butchering with a dremel shortly after fitting.

Incidentally, I thoroughly recommend that ecs website as a way of verifying the parts from real oem. Excellent photos. Has hopefully stopped my currently hilarious game of order the wrong part first time.

You won't need to butcher anything if you get the right eject box and cradle

dirtymonkey29 the later version eject box you have fitted there... is that purely a plug-in-and-play swap with the older version? Connectors fit fine no messing about?

My '55 facelift E53 has the earlier version (same as yours LFP) which has been fine for BMW cradles up to now. I knew finally treating myself to an iPhone 4S would cost me even more money :roll:

iPhone 4S eject box for E53

No idea to be honest but I would assume so. Previous owner must of had it fitted to take the iPhone 3G/Gs cradle that was installed. All I've done is dremel the cradle to fit the iPhone 4.

Right I've just got myself an iPhone 4 snap in adapter (part no 84212199309-01) to fit into my E53. I had to modify my existing eject box, (84212153098-01) which was housing an iPhone 3G snap in adapter, a little bit with a dremel to make it fit. It all works fine. Next project is to strip the iPhone 4 cradle to bits to pull all the cables out and wire in a standard iPod cable so I can connect it to the intravee.
