Can kick myself ...

Post by pvr » Sun Oct 23, 2011 7:57 pm

Doing my mother in law a favour, bought the brake pads and set on to replace them this afternoon (VW). I only sheared the calliper bolt off :headbang:

So what normally is a 15 minute job on a BMW, turned a nightmare on this VW and I now have the front calliper only connected via 1 bolt. Will have to take it to VW now to get it sorted as I just can not be bothered anymore looking at this and can't afford the time to try to deal with this problem.

Just wished I had not bothered now ...

(oh, and Mrs PVR will be really pleased having to ferry her mother around now ...)

Sorry buddy but, he he he he....

You are so screwed MIL and the wife, double whammy!

Jokes aside hope it gets sorted quick, cheap and easy! did u try to unscrew and inadvertently screw the bolt further? Easy to do when facing opposite to you.

I broke the bolt when tightening the bugger. I had removed them fine, but could not get them properly aligned so I thought it was ok but when tightening it just broke

Car had recently had a service so had to remove buckets of brake fluid from the reservoir first as well so I could push the pistons in without overflowing it.

Yes, I did get "that look" when I told Mrs PVR :o

I'll assume you won't be at the next meet...

Sleep with one eye open tonight.

Nah, will do the ferrying tonight so I am ok :)

Car drives fine, just don't think it is best practise to drive with only one calliper bolt in it though.

Neck caliper bolt was it... :poke:

Only teasing. I'm sure she's really nice :)

Dealer sorted it now.

Service was 3 weeks ago (and MOT), and they "discovered" the following:

- Further brake work needed (£450)
- Front bushes completed disintegrated (£300)
- Radiator leaking (replacing £400).
- Brake sensor not working (£200).
- Oil top up required (£6)

Now, the car has done a couple of hundreds of miles since the service and all of this needs doing now?

- Radiator has been "losing" fluid at about half a litre per year for the last 4 years so don't see that as a "requirement" to get fixed on a car that is worth £3k
- Oil has never needed topping up between services, so why now after 300 miles after the service and 5 litres of their oil is £15 in parts, so 0.5 litres is £6 ???
- Brake sensor - I tested it and seems fine to me (open circuit / closed circuit work), so why £200 to fix this as just the cable looks a bit naff?
- Bushes - completeld gone to illegal level in 3 weeks ???

Not impressed, and I let them know that as well (Mrs PVR was nowhere to be seen whilst I was having a "discussion" with them).
