Anyone recognise this e53

Post by 5wany » Thu Dec 01, 2016 11:00 pm

Looking at a e53 for second car (had one 6 year ago and have had an e70 since, but wife drives all the time so want to get an e53 for my runaround / commute as I thought it was a great car)

Seen several but they are getting on a bit, so low mileage high spec well looked after cars now a bit thin on ground.

Seen this and seem to recognise number plate, was it a former members car? link here

Wow - Expensive?

My 4.8is is better spec'd still under BMW Warranty and only 18k more miles and was told it was only worth £4k when I bought my M5 last week.

Are you stuck on an E53 X5 for a run around? You could get a nice E46 Diesel, E46 M3, or a well spec'd Diesel E60 for that money.

I paid 12K for mine 2 years ago  :-[, 20k less mileage though.

4K Turks? was that a trade in price as that seems a tad low.

Relatively high margin because many p/x neglected cars need significant money to prep so fine for good retail.....An absolute mickey take when trade fail to recognise sorted cars that dont need a similar spend to put on a forecourt.

I haven't checked spec but from pics that 3.0d has DSP & heated steering wheel.

Still find them great looking cars that have aged very well.

Exactly. Thats why I'm keen to get my backside back in one.

Got a shot of my e70 this morning, (wifey in door doing some house work - I popped out to help a friend with his roof gutters) gave motor a wee push on. The 3 lite engine is so sweet and powerful.

Yes that was Trade-in although I wasn't looking to Trade-in as the M5 was intended to be a second car. The dealer just gave me an indication presuming this is what I would want to do.

As AW8 said, the Trade-in price vs the Forecourt price looks to be a high margin, but it isn't really. They are covering their risk, the prep, the aftersales warranty, the overhead of the forecourt etc. etc.

Personally, I wouldn't ever trade a Car like this - I would always sell private. I'd expect somewhere between £6.5 and £7k...

Still love the E53, and admire mine on the road or in a car park now... has aged very well.

5wany - good luck with the search...
