Re: Not another winter tyre post - a summer tyre one!

I have the Wintrac Xtremes on 18s. I was so impressed I went out and bought Sessantas for the summers on my 20s which have been excellent. However they are known to be quite soft which may not be so good on tracks. My suggestion would be to ring your nearest Costco. If you are not a member, someone ...

Re: Unleaded in my diesel X5....oops

If it cheers you up, I filled my old bone empty 3.0d with over £100 of unleaded - late night at a motorway services. Drove off and then came to grief as lots of smoke spilled out the back about 10 miles down the road. Recovered to local BMW dealer, cleaned and new injectors  (£300) and was fine ther...

Re: Newbie "SUSPENSION INACT" Issues

No tyre valves on 4.8iS. Think they had them in pre-facelift.It works off the ABS sensors - basically detects differences in braking by corner from a baseline (the reset switch).
Not quite sure why tyre pressure monitor should trigger suspension inactive?
Good luck with it

Re: Newbie "SUSPENSION INACT" Issues

Don't want to depress you but I had similar issues. Front kept dropping periodically when left unused until finally it dropped while I was driving it and didn't go back up. Then went back up on next start-up. The garage spent 2 days (and £300) looking for leaks but couldn't find any.Everything appea...

Re: BMW routes / SatNav planning

I've had this a few times both with the X5 and my CLK. Both of them always default to the Channel Tunnel although they do both recognise the ferry route (once you've done it) when you start up at the end of the journey. I always do it as two routes for that reason. I'm on the Portsmouth/St Malo boat...

Re: Full tank of fuel, how many miles.........

Well, back from skiing last week, I did my usual fill to brim at Verdun services prior to hoofing it to the tunnel and then back to London. That was 315 miles and had light on with 40 mile range showing as I got home. However was driving 85-100mph with a roofbox and the OBC showed about 20 mpg which...

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax

Everyone has there preferred brand.
I use Collinite 845 (on ebay, amazon etc) twice a year. Easy to apply and buff (use one of those big mitts with the tassles). Leaves a good coat for protection.

Re: 4.4 petrol vs 3.0 diesel

I went the other way - 3.0d (owned from new) to 4.8iS. My tuppence worth - 1. The mpg differential in real life is closer than the official figures. I do an uneconomic mix of central London and fast motorway. Diesel was 28 mpg , V8 is around 22. Then of course diesel is a bit more expensive. 2. To b...

Re: KW COILOVERS FITTED

Always difficult to tell without a side-by-side comparison but I think it has improved. It is certainly firm but progressive and less crashiness over major bumps. I do think the rubber air bags get a little brittle over time and lose flexibility. I certainly didn't want to have a worse ride and so f...

KW COILOVERS FITTED

I had problems with my air suspension back in November. Basically it would drop on both sides at the front when left for a few days. Spent the best part of £500 trying to diagnose the problem with my friendly indy with no luck. No obvious leaks and seemed to be temperamental. The only process to res...

Re: Future 4.8is driver

Don't want to worry you but have a very good look at the air suspension particularly as there has already been some work in that area. In the picture, the front looks a tad low to me. There is a button to the right of the steering wheel (which should be lit). Try raising and lowering the suspension....

Re: Off To France

I'm a big fan of French autoroutes. Drive twice a year to Austria to ski and use the French route (marginally longer and toll) rather than the Low Countries. I can only assume Belgium's response to the economic crisis is to spend zero money on road maintenance and snow clearance (and then there's th...
